Count the Cost
President Biden recklessly withdrew American forces out of Afghanistan. He seemingly didn’t do what common sense would tell a sensible person to do. He didn’t count the cost of a hasty exit.
His actions were void of strategy. They cost the lives of many innocent people. That included Afghans who had supported and assisted the United States in the long war.
It also cost millions of dollars in abandoned military weapons and hardware. It was essentially a parting gift to the enemies of the United States.
Aggressors of US Saw Green Light to Take Action
One of the biggest costs President Biden didn’t seem to calculate from his hasty retreat was the loss of respect, even fear among the nations that wish America harm. They now seem emboldened to take aggressive action against our allies and even directly against the US.
Russia soon invaded Ukraine. When America offered aid to Ukraine, Russia threatened nuclear war if the US intervened by placing troops on the ground or fighter jets in the air. Only after Ukrainian president Zelenskyy showed Biden what courage looked like did Biden commit to support a winning strategy; but at an exorbitant financial cost.
North Korea has resumed its saber rattling by launching ballistic missiles into to sea off Japan. President Biden had been in Japan for meetings. North Korea launched three missiles within hours after he left his meetings. North Korea was apparently sending the president off with a bang.
China and Taiwan Conflict
China considers Taiwan part of its territory. The United States doesn’t. So when China held joint exercises with Russia by sending warplanes towards Taiwan during Biden’s Japan trip, it was seen as a blatant provocative act. When asked by a reporter if the United States would engage China militarily if it attacked Taiwan, Biden simply answered, “Yes.”
It’s difficult to know if Biden understood the question, or if he was finally showing some spine. Whatever the case, US officials quickly walked back his remarks.
Before President Biden commits the blood of American soldiers or billions of dollars worth of military aid to Taiwan in a war against China, he should count the cost by considering the words of Jesus.
He said this, “…what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.
That’s in the book of Luke14:31,32
