Gamble House

This iconic Craftsman home is located about half way between the Rose Bowl and Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, CA where I had been painting 2 days earlier. I stopped for about 10 minutes to do the initial sketch as I made the 2 mile trek from the Bowl to the Blvd.. I returned here to the Gamble House to finish this painting because I felt the Lord wanted me to.

2010 Rose Bowl Parade

I was painting on Colorado Blvd. on the eve of the Tournament of Roses Parade. The sidewalk was already filling up with people ready to stake out a spot for the big event. Fernando stopped to watch me paint. We chatted for a while, then I gave him my ‘Talent Search’ tract. He looked through it, then read the prayer of salvation out loud. He asked me, “Do you want to know what I think of this?” “What?” I replied. Parade goers began staking out their place on Colorado Blvd. to view tomorrows parade. I was painting from a location that was not too accessible to the crowd, so I had more intimate conversations about spiritual matters with the few people who stopped by.

The Tail of the Rose Bowl Parade

I once lived three blocks off of Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, the route for the annual Rose Bowl parade. Aside from the large crowds and beautiful floats, conspicuous in their presence were the party people bingeing on alcohol and drugs and religious groups trying to get them to join their ranks.
